I would describe the Master of Environmental Sustainability program as really innovative and you're doing it at Indiana University and you're doing it at O'Neill, which is a top ranked school consistently across the country and across the globe.
The program is designed to give students the flexibility to choose the tools they need for the sustainability area that they're interested in, as well as to give students the ability to walk onto a job and start doing things immediately.
An online degree from IU and especially from the O'Neill School, you get an incredibly rich curriculum with incredibly talented faculty that are going to challenge you as much or more than if you were in an in-person program.
For me, going back to grad school was important because I was changing careers midlife. I wanted to be competitive in the job market. The MES degree was appealing because it was quick.
The MES program can be completed in as little as one year. If it works better for you, you can complete the program at the pace you need to meet your lifestyle.
MES students have the flexibility to mix online and on campus classes as needed.
The biggest strength of this program is its interdisciplinary curriculum that brings togethers the environmental aspects and integrates it with the policies and the governance.
I think that there's a lot of value in the networking. A lot of people in my program had real life experience. It brings a really unique perspective to what you're talking about in the classroom.
I come from a journalism background. I've met people who have a more concrete science background or a mathematical background.
O'Neill is very supportive. The faculty members are willing to help you. You can always go and reach them and they will be willing to listen to you. That gives you that encouragement of what I'm doing is important.
The professors are incredibly understanding about the fact that we as online students are trying to balance work and family and other obligations. The courses are set up so that you know beginning of the semester what is expected.
The MES program is just really well-rounded. The diversity of the classes, the real world settings with the guest speakers, great professors, and then with the career hub, it's just a really good way to set everyone up for success.
It definitely means something to have a degree from IU and a degree from O’Neill.
