Established to honor Professor Emeritus Roy W. Shin. The fellowship supports doctoral students with outstanding academic achievement doing dissertation research in energy or environmental policy in northeast Asia and those who intend to pursue a career in teaching and research activities. Up to $5,000 may be awarded.

About Roy W. Shin
Roy Shin is a professor emeritus in the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IU Bloomington. He also serves as a special adviser to the IU President on global partnerships. He received a B.A. from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 1958, a M.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1962, and a Ph.D. from University of Minnesota in 1969.
Shin joined IU’s faculty in Fort Wayne as a professor of public and environmental affairs in 1977 and also served as the chairman/director of the Division of Public and Environmental Affairs from 1977-1987. In 1987, he transferred to the IU Bloomington campus as a professor of public and environmental affairs, assistant dean for academic administration, and director of the public affairs graduate program in the School of Public & Environmental Affairs. During the 1996-1997 academic year, Shin received a Fulbright award to research at the Korea Institute of Public Administration in Seoul, Korea. He retired from IU Bloomington as a professor emeritus of public and environmental affairs in 1999.
In 2021, Shin was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished service to Indiana University.
