Practicum Experience

Put transformational healthcare leadership into action with the MSHM practicum

Gain hands-on experience as a project manager leading a project in a healthcare organization in our unique paid practicum experience—placements are available with organizations nationwide.

In this optional elective, we'll match you with a preceptor who will support you and cultivate a close mentor-student partnership while you gain competencies and skills to become a transformational healthcare leader. Once matched, you will receive 9 months of practical experience, working 5-20 hours weekly at your practicum site leading projects, networking, and growing professionally. All residential MSHM students who enroll in this elective will receive additional funding support through the Service Corps Fellows Program for completing the work required at their practicum site.

In the classroom portion of the course, you will be taught various Franklin Covey courses including Project Management Essentials. You’re then able to enact these tools in facilitating meetings, creating project schedules, and utilizing change management. These skills can also be immediately applied at your practicum site. During the practicum experience, you will become the transformational healthcare leader you aspire to be while in the program and receive real-time feedback and coaching to strengthen your leadership and management skills through the experience.

In-person, hybrid, and online opportunities are available. No previous experience is required. After this immersive experience, you will be better prepared to step into a leadership role. Some students even receive job opportunities from their practicum site.

Distinguish yourself in the job market with nationally recognized certifications

Through the MSHM practicum course, you’ll gain access to more than 10 certifications designed to help you quickly build a toolkit of hard and soft skills while adding credentials to your resume before you graduate. Altogether, these certifications are valued at $8,000 per student.
