The Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs is pleased to join the Service to Service initiative. This national effort, spearheaded by the Volcker Alliance in collaboration with We the Veterans and Military Families, is dedicated to forging robust career paths for veterans and military-connected students who are seeking graduate education and meaningful leadership roles in civilian public service.
“We are honored to join this national partnership, which perfectly aligns with the O'Neill School's founding commitment to public service,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O'Neill School. “Veterans and military families have already demonstrated unparalleled dedication and leadership. The Service to Service initiative allows us to provide them with the high-quality professional education and support necessary to seamlessly transition their exceptional skills into impactful, enduring careers. They are precisely the kind of dedicated leaders our local and state governments need.”
As part of the Service to Service initiative, the O’Neill School will actively expand outreach to attract and enroll high-caliber, military-connected students while offering specialized academic and co-curricular resources for Service to Service Fellows. Tailored career development will also bridge military leadership experience with in-demand civilian public management roles.
The O’Neill School will not only enroll a cohort of Service to Service Fellows but will also become a key collaborator, working hand-in-hand with university veteran support offices, government partners, and peer institutions. This collaboration will lead to the development of cutting-edge programming, including professional development workshops, strategic networking, and direct employment pathways focused on public management careers.
In addition, the O'Neill School will contribute to the initiative’s national community of practice by sharing proven strategies and advancing military-connected student success across the country.
Students eligible to pursue a Service to Service Fellowship must be present or former members of the Armed Forces of the United States, or be the spouses, widows, widowers, or dependents of present or former members. They also must be enrolled in a master’s degree program at the O’Neill School, eligible to begin a full-time job upon degree completion, and interested in exploring a career in state or local government.
There are more than 15 million veterans in the United States and more than 350,000 veterans in the state of Indiana. The O'Neill School’s participation underscores its deep and ongoing commitment to ensuring veterans and their families have access to the resources and education needed to continue their legacy of service in the public sphere.
