Bolster your resume and career opportunities in the arts by pairing a Master of Arts in Musicology from the Jacobs School of Music with a Master of Arts in Arts Administration (MAAA) from the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs—both top-ranked in the nation.

These complementary degrees will equip you with transferrable skills needed to step into a management role in any arts organization. If you do not wish to pursue a Ph.D., the MAAA degree is the key to unlocking leadership potential in areas often pursued with a Musicology background including fundraising, grant writing, event planning, editing, and entrepreneurship. You’ll be well-prepared to take on roles such as music librarian, program notes annotator, music collection manager, or cultural historian.  

MA in Musicology students, including those who plan to pursue the Ph.D. program, can extend their MA by one year to complete their MAAA degree and further expand employment options.

The MA in Musicology-MA in Arts Administration Program

3years to complete

Course requirements for the dual MA in Musicology and MA in Arts Administration can be completed in just three years. The program combines 21 credits from the Jacobs School MA in Musicology and 33 credits from the O’Neill School MA in Arts Administration, which includes both a practicum and internship in arts administration.

Admissions

You must apply separately for admission to the MA in Musicology at Jacobs and the MAAA at O’Neill and must be accepted by both schools in order to be admitted to the combined degree program.  

You may apply for admission to both programs simultaneously, or, if enrolled in one program, you may apply for admission to the other any time before the completion of your degree.
