O’Neill School policy states that your internship approval form MUST be submitted prior to counting any hours toward your requirement.
As an O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs master’s or undergraduate student, you are required to complete an internship as a part of your professional program (select masters students are exempt). Your internship must be at least 120 hours performed at the same organization. No more than 40 hours per week are allowed.
If you are a MAAA student, you’ll follow internship information specific to your degree, below.

Complete the elective internship credit form
If you want to complete an internship or additional internship hours for credit beyond the required V381/H466 internship component, you must request elective internship credit. We encourage you to meet with an academic advisor early on to determine if elective credits are needed.
Submit a self-evaluation
After your internship, you need to:
Submit a program evaluation
Remind your internship supervisor to complete your supervisor evaluation. Instructions for this were emailed to your supervisor periodically during your internship.
MAAA internship registration and guidelines
Your MAAA internship experience provides an excellent opportunity to apply classroom theory and techniques to real-life experiences. Our students complete internships all over the United States and abroad. The internship component is worth three credit hours and consists of at least 280 hours in an arts-related field. The internship can be completed after two full-time semesters of degree coursework—this is usually during the summer between the second and third semesters, or in the semester following the final on-campus semester. You must be in good academic standing with the college and submit an internship approval request through O'NEILL Careers prior to beginning internship work.
