Be part of the SPEA VISTA Summer Associates program, offered through our partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service. All IU Bloomington students—graduate and undergraduate—are eligible to participate in a summer of valuable experiential learning with nonprofit organizations dedicated to food security and educational policy issues.

SPEA VISTA Summer Associates is the only program of its kind that is affiliated with an undergraduate program.

Program structure

SPEA VISTA Summer Associates are selected through a competitive application and interview process. If selected, you’ll serve a 10-week, full-time term as an AmeriCorps VISTA member working on projects in the state of Indiana, helping serve the needs of the local community and receive a living stipend of $946 per month, paid biweekly.

Following completion of your 10-week term of service, you will also be given the choice between a $1,194 education award or a $250 cash stipend—plus, you'll gain valuable professional experience and fulfill your respective degree program experiential requirement.

Student eligibility

Current and graduating IU Bloomington students—graduate and undergraduate—are eligible to apply for the SPEA VISTA Summer Associates Program.

In accordance with AmeriCorps VISTA program regulations, all applicants must be:

  • A United States citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S.
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
