Dr. Michael A. Edwards teaches courses in chemistry and environmental science through joint appointment with SPEA and the Department of Chemistry. He is an expert in the recruitment, retention, and graduation of underrepresented students in STEM disciplines.

Edwards has been on the faculty with SPEA since 2000, following postdoctoral work at SPEA and at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Edwards is responsible for establishing a collaborative summer internship program with the United Nations Environmental Program in Jamaica, West Indies, for SPEA graduate students. He is director of the Chemistry Tutoring and Mentoring Program, a position he has held since 2003.

Edwards has served on a variety of committees devoted to a more diverse and inclusive campus community, including the IUB Committee on Inclusion and Academic Climate, the IUB Office of Admission Recruiting, and the NIH Initiative for Minority Student Development.
