Bernie Toon has spent more than 30 years in Washington, D.C., in senior positions in the executive branch, both houses of the U.S. Congress, and in the private sector. Currently, he is the director of transit for the City of Albuquerque. Toon is a founding partner of The Ingram Group, formerly The FIRST Group, a bi-partisan communications, government relations and strategic planning firm. Prior to this, he was a principal vice president and manager of the Washington, D.C., office of Bechtel Corporation — one of the world’s largest global engineering and construction companies.
Toon has served as chief of staff to U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), Joe Biden (D-Del.), and Bill Bradley (D-N.J.). His Capitol Hill service also includes stints as a senior professional staff member with the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Additionally, Toon has worked for the law firm Baker and Daniels, and has managed campaigns for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and state governors.
Toon received a bachelor’s degree in political science and an MPA from Indiana University.
