George Varughese is the country representative in Nepal for the San Francisco-based international development organization, the Asia Foundation. There he oversees a broad range of programs that support effective political transitioning, including constitutional development and assistance to the Constituent Assembly, conflict and dispute resolution, and public policy support. He was awarded the University of Wyoming’s endowed senior faculty position in Global Studies for the academic year 2015-16.
Prior to his current position, Varughese was the Asia Foundation’s country representative in Afghanistan, where he spearheaded the internationally respected annual Survey of the Afghan People, which focuses on the development challenges within the country. Before joining the Asia Foundation in 2000, he was country program adviser for the United Nations Development Program in Nepal.
Varughese received a doctorate in public policy from Indiana University.
